What is the difference between a Visa and an ESTA?
A USA visa is a document that meets the legal and regulatory requirements of the United States.
People with a valid visa will still be able to travel to the United States for the purpose for which the visa was issued and are exempt from applying for an approved travel authorization (ESTA) when travelling.
Since ESTA does not meet the legal criteria, it cannot be considered a Visa.
What is ESTA?
ESTA is the abbreviation for the Electronic System of Travel Authorization, an electronic system used to determine the eligibility of people traveling to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).
Is the ESTA Authorization a Visa?
No, the ESTA authorization is for people who are travelling under the Visa Waiver Program. It is an electronic authorization to travel to the United States.
Why was my ESTA application rejected?
Due to security and confidentiality laws, CBP cannot tell you the reason why a travel authorization has been denied.
Can my ESTA be extended?
No, the ESTA authorization cannot be extended; if you’re planning to travel to the U.S. and your ESTA has expired you will have to make another request.
